Data Collection: We collect only the information necessary to provide and improve our services. This may include:
Non-identifying demographic information such as age range, general geographic region (e.g., state or country), and conversation themes for training, reporting, and quality assurance purposes.
Identifying information (such as name, contact details) only if voluntarily provided by you with explicit consent, for example, if you opt-in to receive resource referrals or pen-pal support.

Train and supervise volunteers to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate service.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or commercial purposes.

Data Storage and Security: All data, including call notes or message logs, are stored securely using industry-standard encryption methods. Access is restricted to authorized staff and volunteers who require it for safety and quality oversight. We maintain safeguards to protect against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction of data. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection.
Anonymity and Confidentiality: You may contact us anonymously via call or text. We do not require you to provide your real name, phone number, or any identifying information to receive support. Your confidentiality will be maintained to the greatest extent possible, except in the circumstances outlined below.
Exceptions to Confidentiality: Although we strive to keep your information private, confidentiality may be breached if:
You disclose imminent intent to harm yourself or others
You reveal abuse or neglect of a minor, elderly person, or vulnerable adult
We are compelled by law, court order, or legal process to disclose information
In such cases, we will only share the minimum necessary information with appropriate authorities to ensure safety.
Data Retention: Love, A Stranger retains data indefinitely in order to maintain accurate service records, improve long-term quality, and meet organizational, legal, and reporting requirements. All data is stored securely and protected by industry-standard safeguards. Although data is not routinely deleted, any personal information you provide is protected and handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Welcome to Love, A Stranger. By accessing or using our helpline or any related services, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
Not a Crisis Service: Love, A Stranger is a peer-led support helpline staffed by volunteers who are not licensed medical, mental health, or legal professionals. This service is not a crisis line, emergency service, or clinical treatment resource. If you are in crisis, experiencing suicidal thoughts, or have a medical emergency, please call 911 or the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 immediately.
No Medical, Legal, or Clinical Advice: All support provided is based on peer experience and is intended for emotional support only. We do not offer medical, therapeutic, clinical, or legal advice. You should consult licensed professionals for diagnosis, treatment, or legal concerns.
Limitation of Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by law, Love, A Stranger, its volunteers, staff, board members, and affiliates disclaim liability for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages resulting from your use of this service or reliance on information provided. Use of this service is at your own risk.
Privacy and Confidentiality: We are committed to protecting your privacy and handle information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Calls and texts are anonymous unless you voluntarily disclose personal information. We may collect minimal non-identifying data to improve services. Confidentiality will be maintained except as required by law or when there is a concern for safety (see below).
Duty to Report and Exceptions to Confidentiality: While we strive to protect your privacy, confidentiality may be broken if: - There is an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others - You disclose abuse or neglect of a minor, elderly, or vulnerable person - We are otherwise legally required to report certain information
Age Restrictions: Users must be at least 13 years old to access this service. For minors under 18, we strongly encourage involving a parent or guardian where possible for additional support.
User Conduct: Users agree to communicate respectfully. Hate speech, threats, harassment, or inappropriate content may result in termination of access.
Service Availability: While we aim to provide 24/7 support, Love, A Stranger cannot guarantee uninterrupted availability due to technical issues, volunteer capacity, or other circumstances beyond our control.
Modifications: We reserve the right to update or amend these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice. Your continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of any updated terms.

Article I – Name
The name of the corporation shall be Love, A Stranger Inc.Article II – Duration
The period of duration is perpetual.Article III – Purpose
This corporation is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The specific purpose of this corporation is to provide peer-led support, education, and resources for individuals affected by eating disorders, body image challenges, and related mental health issues.Article IV – Restrictions on Activities
No part of the net earnings of the corporation shall inure to the benefit of, or be distributable to, its members, directors, officers, or other private persons, except that the corporation shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes set forth in Article III.
No substantial part of the activities of the corporation shall consist of carrying on propaganda or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, and the corporation shall not participate in or intervene in (including the publishing or distributing of statements) any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office.Article V – Dissolution
Upon the dissolution of the corporation, assets shall be distributed for one or more exempt purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or shall be distributed to the federal government, or to a state or local government, for a public purpose. No assets shall be distributed to any individual or for-profit entity.Article VI – Incorporator

Article I – Offices
The principal office of the corporation shall be located in New Jersey. The Board may designate other offices.Article II – Board of Directors
The affairs of the corporation shall be managed by its Board.
The Board shall consist of at least 3 and no more than 15 directors.
Directors serve two-year terms and may be re-elected.
The Board shall meet at least quarterly.
A majority constitutes a quorum; decisions are by majority vote.
Article III – Officers
Officers: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer.
Officers are elected by the Board for two-year terms.
Duties:
Chair presides at meetings, represents the organization.
Vice Chair assumes Chair’s duties in absence.
Secretary keeps minutes and records.
Treasurer manages finances and reports to the Board.
Article IV – Committees
The Board may establish committees (e.g., Finance, Programming, Volunteer Coordination).Article V – Conflict of Interest
Any director with a conflict must disclose it and abstain from voting on that matter.Article VI – Volunteers & Staffing
The organization operates primarily through volunteers. Reasonable compensation may be paid for services if approved by the Board.Article VII – Fiscal Year
The fiscal year is January 1 – December 31.Article VIII – Amendments
These bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the Board, with 10 days’ advance notice.
