  • PRIVACY POLICY

    Effective Date: July 10, 2025

    Love, A Stranger respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information collected in connection with our helpline and related services (the ‘Servises”). This Private Policy explains what data we collect, how it is used, and your rights regarding your information.

    1. Data Collection: We collect only the information necessary to provide and improve our services. This may include:

    • Non-identifying demographic information such as age range, general geographic region (e.g., state or country), and conversation themes for training, reporting, and quality assurance purposes.

    • Identifying information (such as name, contact details) only if voluntarily provided by you with explicit consent, for example, if you opt-in to receive resource referrals or pen-pal support.

    You are not required to provide identifying information to access emotional support services.

    1. Use of Data: The data we collect is used solely to:

    • Provide and improve the quality, safety, and effectiveness of our Services.Offer referrals to appropriate treatment and recovery resources when requested

    • Train, supervise, and evaluate volunteers to ensure appropriate service delivery; and 

    • Fulfill internal operational, reporting, and compliance obligations. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing  or commercial purposes.

    • Sar Calla dba Love, A Strange: No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. All the stated categories in this Privacy Policy exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent, which will not be shared with any third party.

    1. Data Storage and Security: All data, including call notes or message logs, is stored securely using industry-standard encryption methods. Access is restricted to authorized staff and volunteers who require it for safety and quality oversight. We maintain safeguards to protect against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction of data. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute protection.

    2. Anonymity and Confidentiality: You may contact Love, A Stranger anonymously via call or text. We do not require you to provide your real name, phone number, or any identifying information to receive support. Your confidentiality will be maintained to the greatest extent possible, except in the circumstances outlined below.

    3. Exceptions to Confidentiality: Although we strive to keep your information private, confidentiality may be breached if:

    • You disclose imminent intent to harm yourself or others

    • You reveal abuse or neglect of a minor, elderly person, or vulnerable adult

    • We are compelled by law, court order, or legal process to disclose information

    • In such cases, we will only share the minimum necessary information with appropriate authorities or emergency services to address safety concerns.

    1. Data Retention: Love, A Stranger retains data for as long as reasonably necessary to maintain accurate service records, improve long-term quality, and meet organizational, legal, and reporting requirements. All data is stored securely and protected by industry-standard safeguards. Although data is not routinely deleted, any personal information you provide is protected and handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy. You may request that personal information you have voluntarily provided be corrected, updated, or removed from active use by contacting info@loveastranger.org, subject to legal and operational limitations.   

    2. Your Rights: You have the right to:

    • Request access to personal data we hold about you;

    • Request corrections or, where legally permitted, deletion or restriction of your personal data; and

    • Opt out of optional data collection or non-essential communications

    • To exercise these rights, please contact us at info@loveastranger.org.

    Changes to This Policy: We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any updates will be posted with a revised “Effective Date.” Continued use of the  Services after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Private Policy.

  • TERMS & CONDITIONS

    Welcome to Love, A Stranger. By accessing or using our the Service, you acknowledge and agree to the following Terms and Conditions.

    1. Not a Crisis or Emergency Service: Love, A Stranger is a peer-led support helpline staffed by volunteers who are not licensed medical, mental health, or legal professionals. This service is not a crisis hotline, emergency service, or substitute for professional care. If you are experiencing a crisis, suicidal thoughts, or have a medical emergency, you should immediately call 911 or the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988.

    2. No Medical, Mental Health, or LegalAdvice: All support provided is based on peer experience and is intended for emotional support only. We do not offer medical, psychological,  therapeutic, clinical, or legal advice. You should consult licensed professionals for diagnosis, treatment, or legal concerns.

    3. Assumption of Risk and Limitation of Liability: To the fullest extent permitted by law, Love, A Stranger, its volunteers, staff, officers, board members, and affiliates, shall not be liable for any  direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of, or reliance upon, the Service.  Use of this service is entirely at your own risk.

    4. Privacy and Confidentiality: We are committed to protecting your privacy and handle information in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Communications are anonymous unless you voluntarily disclose personal information. We may collect limited, non-identifying data for quality improvement, training, reporting, or grant-related purposes. Confidentiality will be maintained except as outlined below or as otherwise required by law. 

    5. Duty to Report and Exceptions to Confidentiality: While we strive to protect your privacy, confidentiality may be broken if:  - There is an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others  - You disclose abuse or neglect of a minor, elderly, or vulnerable person  - Disclosure is otherwise required by applicable law or legal process.

    6. Age Restrictions: Users must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. For minors under 18, we strongly encourage involving a parent or guardian where possible for additional support.

    7. User Conduct: Users agree to engage respectfully. Love, A Stranger reserves the right to restrict or terminate access to the Service for behavior including, but not limited to, harassment, hate speech, threats, or inappropriate or abusive contact. 

    8. Service Availability: While we strive to offer consistent access, the Service is provided on an as-available basis.  Love, A Stranger cannot guarantee uninterrupted or continuous availability due to technical issues, volunteer capacity, or other circumstances beyond our control. 

    9. Anonymous Testimonial Consent: Users may be invited to share feedback. If you voluntarily submit a testimonial, you consent to Love, A Stranger using brief, non-identifying excerpts (e.g., “From a Stranger in New Jersey”) for outreach, training, educational, or grant-related purposes. You may withdraw this consent at any time by contacting us.

    Modifications: Love, A Stranger reserve the right to update or amend these Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice. Your continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of any updated terms.

  • Love, A Stranger, Inc. was incorporated on June 12, 2025, as a nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The organization operates exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, providing peer-led support and resources for individuals affected by eating disorders and body image challenges.

  • Article I – Offices
    The principal office of Love, A Stranger, Inc. (the ‘Corporation”) shall be located in the State of New Jersey. The Board of Directors (the “Board”) may establish additional offices as it deems necessary or appropriate. 

    Article II – Board of Directors

    Section 1. General Powers
    The affairs of the Corporation shall be managed by or under the direction of the Board, in accordance with applicable law and these Bylaws.

    Section 2. Number and Qualifications
    The Board shall consist of no fewer than three (3) and no more than fifteen (15) directors. Directors shall be individuals who support the mission and purposes of the Corporation.

    Section 3. Term of Office
    Directors shall serve two (2)-year terms and may be re-elected for successive terms without limitation, unless otherwise determined by the Board.

    Section 4. Meetings
    The Board shall meet at least quarterly, at such times and places (including by electronic means) as the Board may determine.

    Section 5. Quorum and Voting
    A majority of the directors then in office shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business. Unless otherwise required by law or these Bylaws, actions of the Board shall be approved by a majority vote of directors present at a meeting where a quorum is present.

    Article III – Officers

    Section 1. Officers
    The officers of the Corporation shall include a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, and such other officers as the Board may deem necessary.

    Section 2. Election and Term
    Officers shall be elected by the Board and shall serve two (2)-year terms, or until their successors are elected and qualified.

    Section 3. Duties of Officers

    • Chair: Presides at meetings of the Board, provides leadership to the Corporation, and represents the Corporation as authorized by the Board.

    • Vice Chair: Performs the duties of the Chair in the Chair’s absence or incapacity and such other duties as assigned by the Board.

    • Secretary: Maintains corporate records, minutes of meetings, and official documents of the Corporation.

    • Treasurer: Oversees the financial affairs of the Corporation, ensures accurate financial records are maintained, and reports financial status to the Board.

    Article IV – Committees
    The Board may establish standing or ad hoc committees, including but not limited to Finance, Programming, or Volunteer Coordination committees. Committees shall operate under authority delegated by the Board and shall report regularly to the Board. 

    Article V – Conflict of Interest
    Any director or officer who has a direct or indirect conflict of interest in any matter before the Board shall disclose the existence of such conflict and shall abstain from discussion and voting on the matter, in accordance with the Corporation’s Conflict of Interest Policy and applicable law. 

    Article VI – Volunteers & Staffing
    The Corporation operates primarily through volunteers. The Board may authorize reasonable compensation for services rendered to the Corporation, provided such compensation is consistent with applicable nonprofit law and approved by the Board without participation by any interested person. 

    Article VII – Fiscal Year
    The fiscal year of the Corporation shall be January 1 through December 31, unless otherwise determined by the Board. 

    Article VIII – Amendments
    These bylaws may be amended or repealed by a two-thirds (⅔) vote of the directors then in office, provided that at least ten (10) days’ prior written notice of the proposed amendment is given to all directors.
